In fulfillment of its mandate under section 56 of the Energy Commission Act 1997 (Act 541) and the Electrical Wiring Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 2008), the Energy Commission has developed and launched the Ghana Electrical Wiring Certification Guidelines which outlines the framework for certifying qualified electrical wiring practitioners. This is part of a national programme to regulate electrical wiring in Ghana to ensure safety of persons, livestock and other property from hazards that arise from the distribution and use of electrical energy.

Electricians are required to write and pass an examination before they can be recognized as Certified Electrical Wiring Professionals (CEWPS). The examination is in three stages namely; Oral (interviews), Objective test and practical exams.

In support of the above, candidates would require well structured training programmes, that cover both theoretical and practical aspects, to help them adequately prepare to undertake the examinations, such training courses would also enable them to work safely and efficiently upon successful completion of the examinations.

The examination is conducted twice in a year; May/June and Nov/Dec each year and training should therefore be available throughout the year.
The opportunity to prove this training is open to individuals, private and public institutions with adequate requisite qualified and experienced staff as well as adequate training facilities capable of effectively training candidates and practitioners in accordance with the Ghana Standards (GS1009) and the syllabus designed for the examination.

All interested persons are invited to register with the Energy Commission as training entities to train candidates for electrical wiring certification examination as follows;

  1. Complete the application form and provide all necessary details required (the form can be found on the Energy Commission’s website www.energycom.gov.gh) or at the Commission’s office.
