On November 25, 2024, Ghana reached a major milestone with the launch of the Energy Academy and Energy Forum Series at the iconic Nearly Zero-Energy Building on the premises of the Energy Commission in Accra. Under the theme “Three Decades of Energy Sector Reforms in Ghana: Reflecting on Performance and Shaping a Sustainable Future,” the event celebrated the nation's progress in energy innovation and reforms over 30 years.

The Board Chairman of the Energy Commission, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, joined by Board Members and experts in the sector reflected on three decades of energy reforms in Ghana, emphasizing the pivotal role the Academy will play in sustaining Ghana’s leadership in the energy space. Deputy Minister of Energy, Hon. John Abbam Aboah Sanie, officially launched the Academy, describing it as “a hub of knowledge, experience and innovation” dedicated to empowering energy professionals across Africa.

The Executive Secretary of the Energy Commission, Ing. Oscar Amonoo-Neizer, extended the Commission’s heartfelt gratitude to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) for the collaboration. He also thanked the GIZ for supporting the construction of the Nearly Zero-Energy Building, which houses the Academy.

The launch of the Energy Academy signifies a vital step toward shaping Africa’s sustainable energy future. Through its cutting-edge training programs, partnerships with institutions like the Brew-Hammond Energy Centre, and focus on policy and institutional development, the Academy is poised to lead innovation in the sector and to serve as a hub for dialogue and collaboration, empowering the next generation of energy professionals to address Africa's unique challenges.
