Dr. Isaac Frimpong Mensa-Bonsu is a Board Member of the Energy Commission. He retired from Public Service in January 2020 as Director for Plan Coordination, at the Ghana National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), and also as Ag. Director for Monitoring and Evaluation in the same institution. As a Director at NDPC, he was appointed a Member of the Governing Board of state institutions such as the Middle Belt Development Authority, Energy Commission, Ghana Railway Development Authority, as well as Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
Dr. Isaac Frimpong Mensa-Bonsu was a member of the Ministerial Advisory Board for the Ministry of Transport and the Public Sector Representative on the Management Committee of the Institute of Statistics and Social Research (ISSER)-University of Ghana.
Dr. Isaac Frimpong Mensa-Bonsu obtained his PhD in Environmental Science from Japan in 1994. After obtaining his PhD, he worked as a Lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology, Kumasi for 14 years, teaching Principles of Environmental Management, Environmental Policy, Project Planning and Management, Infrastructure Planning, Project Appraisal and Evaluation, Techniques for Spatial and Quantitative Methods for Planning.
Dr. Isaac Frimpong Mensa-Bonsu led the national consultations (supported by UNDP) during the preparation of the Post-2015 Global Development Agenda, soliciting stakeholder views on the World We Want which was submitted as inputs into the UN Agenda 2030 -the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs).
He is a Consultant and has provided expert advice in the preparation of plans at the national level, sector level, district level and local level such as the Ghana Vision 2020-the 2nd Step, 7-Year Development Plan for Ghana (1996-2010), 15-Year Tourism Plan for Ghana (1996-2010)
and several district plans.
Dr. Isaac Frimpong Mensa-Bonsu had several short-term engagements with the United Nations System as a Member of the International Expert Group and International Advisory Group. He was a member of the International Expert Group, Preparatory Committee, for the United Nations Conference on Housing and Urban Development (UN Habitat III).
He is a Christian and married with six children.
