The project is keen on promoting productive uses of solar energy, and as such, the RETT commissioned the CREK and CSIR to conducted pre-feasibility studies on four irrigation schemes in the Northern sector under the operation of the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA) and the Southern Sector. The essence of this work was to identify potential sites for solar irrigation installation. Smallholder farmers were involved in the studies. The background study of the current power situation and the economic assessment of these schemes have been conducted and potential sites recommended.
The project hosted site visits in November 2017 involving two major Chinese Solar Companies (Polysolar Company Limited and HIENERGY) to visit shortlisted sites.
MoUs have been signed in China between the Polysolar Company Limited and HIENERGY
The projects are yet to take off following financial closure from interested partners.
