WELCOME MESSAGE
Energy consumption from domestic cooling systems constitutes a substantial proportion of household energy expenses. Furthermore, households in Ghana are very sensitive to price and tend to prioritize lower prices over the efficiency of the appliances. This situation has facilitated the proliferation of a huge second-hand appliances market and the market penetration of new but cheaper and inefficient equipment.
Environmentally friendly refrigerators and air conditioners will be more widely accessible and affordable in Ghana through a new Green On-wage financing scheme. The ECOWAS Refrigerators and Air Conditioners Initiative is collaborating with Calbank, Ecobank, Letshego as partner banks and with Ederick, Hisense, Nesstra and SML as partner vendors
Investments in new energy-efficient domestic cooling technologies generate important cost savings for households and micro-entrepreneurs that allow them to recover their investment in a reasonable period of time, while also easing the strain on the electricity grid and reducing carbon emissions.
