STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT WITH MANUFACTURES OF ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT, ELECTRICAL APPLIANCES AND RENEWABLE ENERGY EQUIPMENT.
The Energy Commission (Local Content and Local Participation) (Electricity Supply Industry) Regulations, 2017 (L.I. 2354) was passed by Parliament on 22nd December 2017. The purpose of the L.I. 2354 includes amongst others, the maximization of financial capital, expertise, goods and services locally to develop and promote local capacity in the Electricity Supply Industry (ESI) and the manufacture of electrical equipment, electrical appliances and renewable energy equipment.
In line with Regulation 16 of L.I.2354, all companies that manufacture or assemble electrical equipment, electrical appliance or renewable energy equipment or any item listed below must apply to be registered by the Energy Commission. The purpose for the registration is to comply with Regulation 16 of L.I. 2354 and also that service providers in the ESI procure the under-listed items locally in accordance with the terms and provisions of the Seventh Schedule of the Regulation.

The Commission will be organizing a stakeholder meeting on the 3rd of August to further sensitize manufactures on the provisions of the Regulations, strategies for their implementation and the process for registration with the Energy Commission.
