New Directives on Energy Efficiency Test Reports for Refrigerating Appliances
The Energy Commission wishes to remind all importers/retailers of refrigerating appliances that;
The energy efficiency standards and labelling (Household refrigerating appliances) regulations L.I. 1958 5(1) states that:
A person shall not import, store, offer for sale, sell, distribute or otherwise part with an appliance unless that person has made available sufficient technical documentation to enable the accuracy of the information contained in an information sheet or on a label to be assessed
Hitherto energy efficiency test report from manufacturers have been accepted for the purpose of determination of accuracy of information on labels. From the 1st of July 2015 however, only test reports from accredited third party laboratories will be accepted.
All importers of refrigerating appliances should note that from July 1st 2015;
- Appliances entering the country should be backed with energy efficiency test reports from accredited third party laboratories.
- Appliances already in the market should also be backed by test reports from third party accredited testing laboratories.
- IN THE ABSENCE OF THIRD PARTY TEST REPORTS, APPLIANCES WILL BE DETAINED AT THE COMMISSION’S WAREHOUSE UNTIL VALID TEST REPORTS ARE PROVIDED
