Importers of Household Refrigerating Appliances, Air-Conditioners and Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) are reminded that;
- Before their goods arrive at the ports of Ghana, Importers should submit to the Energy Commission and Ghana Standards Authority detailed technical specifications and test reports on their appliances issued by an accredited Testing Laboratory in accordance with the relevant regulations (LI 1958, LI 1970 LI 1815 and LI 1541)
- All goods should be properly labeled prior to their arrival in Ghana, in accordance with the relevant regulations.
Importers are also advised to take note that, in order to ensure smooth enforcement of energy efficiency regulations, the following new procedures shall apply:
Effective 15th April, 2014 any Household Refrigerating Appliance, Air-Conditioner and Compact Fluorescent Lamp imported into the country without a label indicating
its energy efficiency rating or not properly labelled or labelled in a deceptive or misleading manner would be detained at a designated warehouse at the expense of the importer.
The unlabeled or mislabelled appliances would be kept in the warehouse until the necessary tests are performed on them or relevant technical documentation from the appliance’s manufacturer is submitted for validation of energy efficiency ratings and other quality parameters as per the requirements of
applicable standard.
Fixing of labels would be undertaken at the designated warehouse under the supervision of officials from the Energy Commission and the Ghana Standards Authority.
Goods would only be released after they have been certified as complying with the requirements of relevant Regulations, Standards and Labeling Rules.
